Achieving high R-values in narrow roof cavities can be challenging. EXPOL's EPS skillion roof insulation systems deliver reliable thermal performance using slim, rigid insulation sheets designed specifically for confined spaces, low-pitch roofs and skillion configurations. Whether for new construction, extensions or re-roofing projects, EXPOL ThermaSlab and EXPOL Platinum Board provide long-term insulation performance tailored to New Zealand conditions and Building Code requirements.
Rigid EPS sheets offer high thermal resistance without excessive thickness, making them ideal for designs where cavity depth or architectural detailing limits insulation space. Available in multiple grades and supplied in full sheets or cut to suit rafter and purlin spacings, these lightweight boards install efficiently while minimising thermal bridging.
Manufactured from a durable closed-cell structure composed of 98% trapped air within a 2% cellular matrix, EXPOL insulation sheets are resistant to moisture ingress, do not settle or slump over time, and require no ongoing maintenance. Platinum Board, a graphite-infused premium EPS, delivers superior R-values relative to thickness for projects demanding higher thermal performance.
Containing recycled content and fully recyclable through EXPOL's nationwide recycling programme.
Accessories such as EXPOL WireGuard and Styro-FIX Construction Adhesive support safe installation and secure fixing for timber and steel roof assemblies.

When insulating skillion roofs the insulation should be cut accurately to create a neat fit between the rafters or purlins. It is also important to make sure that the insulation is maximized by using the correct thickness; this is determined by the thickness of the rafters or purlins. There is a requirement for an air gap above the insulation, check with your architect or specifier for the exact measurement for your project.
Care should be taken to ensure that there is no contact between the polystyrene and any electrical wiring.
