Sustainability at EXPOL: A Decade of Responsible EPS Manufacturing

For EXPOL, sustainability isn't a new initiative or a marketing trend.
It's something we've been working on quietly, consistently, and seriously for over a decade — as an EPS manufacturer operating in New Zealand.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) plays an important role in construction and packaging. It's lightweight, durable, and highly effective — but like any material, it comes with responsibility.

From the beginning, we believed that if we were going to manufacture EPS in New Zealand, we also needed to take responsibility for what happens after it's been used.

Over the years, we've invested heavily in recycling systems that allow EPS to be collected, processed, and reused instead of ending up in landfill. Clean EPS waste is broken down and reintroduced back into our manufacturing — reducing the need for virgin raw materials.

Recycling EPS isn't the easiest path. It requires infrastructure, education, logistics, and long-term commitment. But it's the right one.

    Progress, not perfection

"Sustainability isn't about perfection — it's about progress and accountability."

That's why initiatives like our Bean Bag Take Back Day matter to us. They're not one-off gestures; they're part of a bigger picture.

At EXPOL, responsibility doesn't stop at the factory gate.

It's something we carry through every stage of a product's life — and something we'll continue improving, year after year.
