EXPOL CONCRETE FLOOR INSULATION

EXPOL’s range of under concrete floor (slab) insulation products provide thermal insulation and strength where it counts. Up to 10% of heat loss from a building is through the concrete slab. A building with underfloor insulation provides a warm, dry and healthy indoor environment for occupants, and reduces heating and cooling costs.

EXPOL ThermaSlab (EPS – Expanded Polystyrene), EXPOL Platinum Board (Graphite Infused EPS – Expanded Polystyrene), EXPOL SLABX200 (Expanded Polystyrene Board) and EXPOL-X (XPS Extruded Polystyrene) products won’t degrade over time, meaning thermal insulation performance is maintained for the life of the building. EXPOL concrete floor insulation is suitable for both residential and commercial building projects.

Compared to other insulation, EPS offers superior resistance to the ingress of water. Samples of EPS retrieved after 30 years in the ground showed less than 1% water content by volume. Boards periodically submerged over the same amount of time showed less than 4% water content.

The Products

EXPOL ThermaSlab S and H (EPS – Expanded Polystyrene) sheets are the most cost-effective products for insulating under a concrete slab. These densities will suit most residential floors and will achieve R-values above building regulations.

EXPOL ThermaSlab VH (EPS – Expanded Polystyrene) sheets would normally be required in commercial applications where very high loads are probable. Also see EXPOL-X for these situations.

EXPOL Platinum Board (Graphite Infused EPS – Expanded Polystyrene) sheets are suitable for insulating under a concrete slab. EXPOL Platinum Board (Graphite Infused EPS – Expanded Polystyrene) is a premium product which achieves superior R values relative to thickness, commonly used when thickness is an issue or high R-values are required.

EXPOL SLABX200 Concrete Floor Insulation 2400 x 1200

EXPOL SLABX200 is specifically designed for insulating concrete slabs. It delivers an uncompromised compressive strength of 200kPa @ 10% deformation and exceptional Insulation Values. Specifically engineered for residential and commercial projects, its high performance gives engineers and specifiers peace of mind while increasing the thermal performance of a building.

Installation for:

EXPOL ThermaSlab S and H (EPS – Expanded Polystyrene)
EXPOL ThermaSlab VH (EPS – Expanded Polystyrene)
EXPOL Platinum Board (Graphite Infused EPS – Expanded Polystyrene)
EXPOL SLABX200 (EPS – Expanded Polystyrene Board)
EXPOL X (XPS – Extruded Polystyrene)

The installation process of EXPOL concrete floor insulation is quick and easy. Simply butt the sheets together on top of the DPC (polythene). It is important that the polystyrene sheets are not placed under any footings or thickenings for load bearing walls.

The sheets can be taped together however this is not absolutely necessary. Once the sheets have been laid, place the reinforcing mesh on top using the required mesh chairs. See our Masterspec document for further information.

EXPOL PodSticks

Used as an alternative to Mesh / Bar Chairs. Provides more support for steel mesh over polystyrene

EXPOL EX1300 Hot Wire Polystyrene Cutter The cutter is designed to cut Geofoam, SLABX200 and EXPOL Tuff Pods – they are a portable solution for cutting polystyrene on building sites. Rather than using a hand saw that creates a mess and can be detrimental to the environment. The EX1300 allows the user to achieve accurate and clean cuts through polystyrene leaving little or no mess.

The EX1300 easily cuts GeoFoam, SLABX200 and Tuff Pods to different sizes and enables you to cut channels and groves through the GeoFoam, SLABX200 and Tuff Pods to accommodate plumbing services.

FAQ

What is the best product to use under my concrete floor ?

This very much depends on the project and what qualities you require.

EXPOL ThermaSlab S and H Grade –  sheets are the most cost-effective products for insulating under a concrete slab.
EXPOL ThermaSlab VH – is recommended in  commercial applications where very high loads are probable.
EXPOL Platinum Board (Graphite Infused EPS – Expanded Polystyrene) – is a premium product which achieves superior R-values relative to thickness.
EXPOL SLABX200 – specifically designed for insulating concrete slabs. It delivers an uncompromised compressive strength of 200kPa @ 10% deformation and exceptional insulation values.
EXPOL-X (XPS – Extruded Polystyrene) – is highly water resistant and has an extremely high compressive strength.

Is there much of a price difference between the products?

Yes there is. EXPOL ThermaSlab S and H Grades are the most cost effective with EXPOL-X been priced at the top end. Please check prices with your supplier.
